"In the Aboriginal worldview, there are diverse ways of knowing: those of thinking, feeling and willing. Each is interwoven yet distinct. Thinking is part of the flux, feelings are a particular location in the flux, and willing is using thinking and feelings…The object of knowledge is to reunify the world or at least reconcile the world to itself. Uniting these three modes of knowledge is necessary; each can contribute to human development, and each requires its own appropriate expression" (Youngblood-Henderson, 2002, p.268).

Traditional knowledge systems and practices continue to be used within Indigenous cultures in Australia and globally. The management and transfer of historic knowledge is crucial to the transfer of cultural knowledge and wisdom.

Storytelling is a vital channel of the inheritance of knowledge within indigenous communities as a conduit for information transfer of cultural heritage, spiritual beliefs, social structure, traditional law, language and sustainability.

Western society, written media and new technologies have impacting on these historic forms of knowledge transfer. It is imperative to ensure the protection of indigenous information, knowledge and cultural through new forms of preservation.

This two-day masterclass will provide an interactive environment in which to explore critical areas associated with the effective use of knowledge management techniques within the Australian indigenous culture. Effectively engaging indigenous communities, finding functional methods to capture, transfer and preserve oral and traditional knowledge, and exploring narrative techniques are the key focuses of this event.
