In the past year Australia has had to deal with some serious disasters and crises, such as the Victorian bushfires, the Queensland floods, the Sydney CBD power outage, the swine flu pandemic and the economic crisis. These crises presented enormous challenges and difficulties and involved the best and worst in crisis communication.

Crises can come in any shape or form and often when you least expect them. And they can hit any organisation. Poor communication during and after a crisis can cause public panic, destroy reputations and even increase the impact of a disaster or accident.

Therefore, every organisation needs to prepare itself for a crisis by having a crisis communication team and a detailed plan in place. In addition public sector organisations need to deal with challenges such as bureaucratic decision processes, cross-agency communication and political agendas and reputations.

This one-day conference will provide you with opportunities to hear timely and practical crisis communication case studies from the public sector and to interact and network with presenters and attendees. You’ll be armed with techniques to

  • Prepare a crisis communication plan
  • Understand the impact and use of new media in crisis communication
  • Deal with bureaucratic structures and procedures
  • Collaborate with politicians and other government agencies
  • Develop relationships and join forces with the media
