Women have historically been under-represented in senior management and partnership levels within professional service firms. Consequently this highly skilled talent pool is underutilised and many women are not attaining the levels of success they are due.
However, many firms have successfully established supportive environments for women to address issues that have traditionally hindered their recognition and career advancement. This in turn has generated progressive thinking in managing initiatives for attracting, retaining and advancing women in these industries.
In addition, increased global awareness has motivated organisations to take a directive stance and implement organisational changes to facilitate flexibility in work arrangements. This affirmative action has been a key success factor in the bid to retain and progress highly skilled individuals and has driven women to achieve greater success from initiatives focused on leadership opportunities, flexible working arrangements and cultural change.
The following critical issues will be explored:
- Assessing key drivers for retention and advancement of women
- Examining alternate work arrangements and job share opportunities
- Marketing policy and rolling out the function across the organisation
- Recognising different forms of leadership and aligning programs with the skills of both men and women
- Building successful long-term client relationships and managing the process on a part-time basis
